Local Juneteenth Celebrations

June 14, 2023

Juneteenth holds immense significance as a celebration of freedom and equality. It commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, marking the day when news of their liberation reached the last remaining enslaved people (Texas, June 19, 1865). Celebrating Juneteenth acknowledges the struggle, resilience, and triumph of the Black community, highlighting the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality. It serves as a reminder of the importance of freedom, educates about the history of slavery, promotes cultural understanding, and fosters unity and solidarity in the pursuit of a more inclusive and equitable society. You can joining in on the celebration - we're compiling a list of local Juneteenth celebrations in and around Gaston and Cleveland Counties. Do you know of a festival or celebration we should add to our list? Email me or Submit an Event to let me know! As always, event times and dates sometimes change, so be sure to double-check with the venue before heading out. Click the Pink Link to read more information!
