Materials Needed:
Brown sheet of construction paper
Beige sheet of construction paper
glue
Brown paint
paintbrush
small potato cut in half
Green Easter grass
glue
dark brown marker
1 med size google eye
white paper with the following poem, typed on it
- Take the beige sheet of construction paper and cut a tunnel down one side that is about 1 3/4" wide and about 6" long (make your cuts slightly wavy). At the end of the "tunnel" cut over about 4" and then down 4" and then across 7 3/4". SEE PICTURE if these instructions are confusing. This is your "burrow."
- Glue the burrow to the brown sheet of construction paper, leaving about 1/2" of brown showing on both sides of the burrow.
- Take the potato half and paint the flat side with brown paint. Press the potato half flat side down in the middle of the large burrow space. Let dry.
- Print the following poem centered on the white sheet of paper.
Small and round.
I sleep in a burrow,
Deep in the ground.
I look to find my shadow
On Groundhog Day
To tell if spring
Is on it's way!
5. Cut the poem out into a square shape. Glue it on the brown construction paper centered in the
space next to the tunnel and over the burrow.
6. Glue the google eye onto the right side of the potato stamp. With the brown marker, draw a nose
with whiskers, an ear on top, a tail on the other end and 4 legs underneath.
7. Cut the Easter grass into small pieces and glue under the groundhog for his nest. Glue additional
grass across the top of the sheet to represent the ground above.
