Puzzle Piece Snowflake Ornament

craft for younger Elementary age children

December 20, 2012
Supplies Needed:
  • 500 piece puzzle (buy at Dollar Tree)
  • White acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Sparkle Mod Podge
  • Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
  • Tacky Glue (or hot glue if you are in a hurry)
  • Ribbon
  • 1 inch small wooden discs or cardboard circles (cereal boxes are great!)
Directions:
  • Start out by finding 6 inside puzzle pieces (the ones that are long and skinny, not the ones that have a straight edge or a corner piece).
  • Paint all six pieces and the circle, front and back, with about 2-3 coats until no picture shows through.
  • When the paint dries, glue three pieces onto the circle disc in a star pattern to create the snowflake shape. Glue the other three pieces in-between the other 3 pieces (see picture)
  • Apply two coats of sparkle Mod Podge.
  • When Mod Podge is dry, set the snowflake on a flat surface and cover the top with Dimensional Magic and let it dry for 3 hours.  The dimensional magic gives it a hard plastic sheen.
  • Make a loop with the ribbon, and glue it to the back of the ornament to make a hanger.
